When I was in Leadership St Tammany, the experience that made the biggest impact on me was our visit to Northshore Food Bank because of the memories it evoked. As a child, I grew up very poor, so I know what it feels like to go to bed hungry.

My father died when I was young, and I only have a handful of memories of him. One of those memories is of dad and I standing in a food bank line for government cheese and powdered milk to feed our family.

When our class visited Northshore Food Bank, its purpose resonated with me and I felt led to become a volunteer. It's fulfilling to know that our community has such a program in place. When I'm loading food boxes in the cars of those in need and I see the faces of the parents and their kids, I have to thank God that these families are being fed and that their children won't be going to bed hungry.
