Grant Spotlight: Chevron

Chevron has been a loyal partner of Northshore Food Bank for over a decade and most recently awarded us with a $30,000 grant to support our food program!

You may be familiar with their gas stations around town, but what you may not be aware of is Chevron’s support throughout our Northshore community. To help assist communities near their Gulf of Mexico operation, Chevron committed $350,000 to multiple nonprofits and food banks in the Southeast Louisiana area during the COVID-19 crisis, including the Bayou Community Foundation, Northshore Community Foundation, Second Harvest Food Bank, and Northshore Food Bank.

During the year of COVID-19, Northshore Food Bank has experienced record participant growth in our food assistance programs. Chevron's generous 2021 grant will significantly help us sustain this growth and provide nearly 27,000 meals to clients. "The number of families we can provide food assistance for because of this donation is incredible. We are grateful for the generous support we have received from Chevron" said Terri Turner-Marse, CEO of Northshore Food Bank.

“For years, Chevron has been proud to partner with the Northshore Food Bank,” said Leah Brown, Public Affairs Manager of Chevron’s Gulf of Mexico Business Unit. “We’re inspired by the positive impact their team has had on the community. As a result of their efforts, children in St. Tammany and Washington Parishes receive the nutrition they need and are better prepared to learn, grow and thrive. This is the foundation for healthy families and strong communities. Chevron is extremely humbled to work hand-in-hand with the Northshore Food Bank and continue to address the critical issue of hunger.”

By matching donations and promoting volunteerism, Chevron instills in their employees the importance of being thoughtful stewards of the community. Over the years, Chevron has donated more than $133,000 in funding to our organization, but their assistance to Northshore Food Bank only begins with financial donations. Since 2013, Chevron employee groups have donated their time to the food bank by sorting food donations, packing food boxes for auxiliary programs, distributing boxes to participant families, and facility clean-up projects in preparation for our in-house fund raising events. In addition, last year Chevron donated more than $32,000 in gas gift cards to our participants, some of whom travel more than an hour to come to our facility to receive food assistance. Much of our success can be attributed to the generosity from Chevron, and we are honored and look forward to continuing positive outcomes through this initiative.
