Could You Choose Between Food and Medical Care?

79 year old Mrs. C was going to have to make that choice. In addition to this financial hardship, she experienced a traumatic incident that is still troubling her today. In 2014, Mrs C's home was robbed and she was forcefully pushed and locked in the trunk of her car by the assailant. Stuck in her trunk for over an hour, the police eventually found her and and had to break open the trunk to rescue her. A traumatic experience in and of itself, Mrs C is still today suffering with physical and mental set-backs from the incident. Mrs C has fought to provide for herself all on her own up until today when she walked into Northshore Food Bank for the very first time. Her Social Security checks just don't cover the increased cost of living as well as the special medications she requires, including special compound medications which are not covered by Medicare insurance. We trust the food she receives from Northshore Food Bank will allow her a little financial freedom.

According to a Feeding America study in 2015, Louisiana has the second highest threat of senior hunger at 23.4%. That means nearly 1 in 4 seniors struggle with hunger.
